200 Hour YOGA TEACHER TRAINING

The Yoga H'om Teacher Training Program is designed for both experienced yoga students wishing to take their yoga practice and lifestyle to a deeper level and for aspiring yoga teachers.  This course is also appropriate for current yoga teachers interested in formal instruction in the teaching of yoga to better help their students discover their fullest potential.

 This Yoga Alliance approved Teacher Training Program is based on the Standards set forth by the Yoga Alliance.  Upon successful completion of this course you will be eligible to apply to the Yoga Alliance for Registry as a Registered Yoga Teacher at the 200 hour level.

To apply for this course you should have a solid personal yoga practice and have been studying Hatha yoga for at least 12 months with a qualified yoga teacher.  (If a qualified teacher is not available, personal practice may be accepted if you can adequately demonstrate the ability to perform basic asana).

This training will be an enjoyable, hands-on, experiential, group effort with support from all participants.

Teacher Trainees should expect to develop a personal yoga practice; study postures and be prepared to share your knowledge and understanding with the group;  practice pranayama exercises and prepare to share your experience with the group.  You will be assigned some out of class work, this will be kept to a minimum.

In this Teacher Training Course you will learn to:

  • Discover the joy and benefits of developing your personal yoga practice

  • Gain a basic understanding of the philosophy of yoga

  • Teach with confidence, clarity, and effectiveness

  • Adjust verbally and with appropriate touch

  • Sequence the practice intelligently and logically

  • Teach basic principles of alignment

  • Understand general principles of anatomy as they apply to yoga

  • Use props for teaching effectively

  • Improve your communication skills

Additional Requirements:

  • Attend a minimum of 6 classes per month at Yoga H’om. Under special circumstances, classes at other studios must be approved and documented. Most classes should be with either Maggie, Terri or Patti.

  • Have a personal asana/meditation practice of at least 5 hours per week

  • Observe 3 yoga classes at Yoga H'om

  • Assist 3 yoga classes at Yoga H'om

  • Teach 2 yoga classes at Yoga H'om

  • Observe and evaluate at least 8 outside classes (different teachers/studios) during the training

  • Additional research/independent study as assigned

Pre-requisites:

  • Minimum one year of consistent asana practice with a qualified teacher, (Asana practice  for an average of 5 hours per week)  Pranayama and meditation practice.  

  • Please note, this teacher training is designed to teach you how to safely and effectively teach asana classes to the general public. It is not designed to teach you how to perform basic asana. However, in the process, you will refine your own personal asana practice.

  • Curriculum includes but not limited to:

  • Techniques: An in-depth study of asana and pranayama

  • Benefits and contraindications of asana: Teaching of and adjustments of postures

  • Effective sequencing of asana

  • Hands on assisting to benefit students

  • Sanskrit names of postures

  • Teaching of children, seniors, and restorative yoga

  • Exploration of multiple styles of yoga Teaching Methodology

  • Effective language and communication

  • Creative themes for classes

  • Anatomy: The application of anatomical principles and how it applies to teaching yoga

  • Modifications of yoga asana to address injuries and physical limitations

  • Trauma Sensitivity

  • Philosophy of Yoga, Lifestyles and Ethics of a yoga teacher

  • Sutra study and living your yoga

  • Chakra study

  • Ethics of a yoga teacher

  • Practicum: Lots of opportunities to practice teaching! Observing asana in action. Assisting students in asana classes

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  •  A Certificate of Course Completion will be issued to Teacher Trainees who actively participate in

  • and successfully complete 100% of contact hours and assigned non-contact hours.

  • Earn a minimum score of 80% on the final exam.

  • Not more than 15 YTT contact hours can be missed (missed hours must be made up). 

  • Make up for missed contact hours will be at the discretion of the YTT Director.

  • Full payment of all fees must be received before a certificate will be issued.

  • Trainees who successfully complete the teacher training course will be eligible to apply to the Yoga Alliance for registry as a Registered Yoga Teacher at the 200 hour level.

  • Requirements must be completed within one year after training ends.

Student teaching Fees and payment:

Teaching Certificate: $2,500 includes deposit. Non-refundable deposit of $100.00 will be accepted with your completed application. Balance of $2400.00 to be paid prior to the beginning of the training or you may pay in 8 monthly installments of $300.00 per month – October to May (October must be paid in advance) Applications are due by September 15

Once monthly payment is made, no refunds will be issued. You are responsible to pay for every weekend whether you attend or not. Additional costs will include the purchase of assigned books and Yoga classes at any studio other than Yoga H'om.
